Sha Tin has the following subdistrict(s) : Fo Tan, Sha Tin, Tai Wai
Sha Tin District spans eastern New Territories, covering ~69 km² with over 690,000 residents as of 2025 - Hong Kong’s most populous. Inhabited since Paleolithic times, called Lik Yuen in Ming, it became Hong Kong’s first new town in the 1970s. MTR East Rail and Tuen Ma lines run through; Shing Mun River green corridors network the area. Sites include Tsang Tai Uk, Che Kung Temple, and Shing Mun Reservoir in country park. Ma On Shan and Sha Tin town centre host malls; New Town Plaza is a shopping mecca. Sha Tin blends ancient heritage with modern housing—a core New Territories east hub.
