Kam Tin

Kam Tin (錦田), or otherwise known as Kam Tin Heung (錦田鄉) is an area North of Tai Mo Shan mountain and East of Yuen Long town in New Territories, Hong Kong. It was previously known as Sham Tin (岑田) and is one of the largest areas of flat land in the New Territories. In Chinese, ‘Tin’ translates to rice field or rice paddy and because of it's flat arable land, Kam Tin was once a fertile location for growing rice and vegetables. In more recent years, civil engineering projects have multiplied throughout the valley and as with all progress and development, preserving the heritage has become increasingly difficult to maintain.  More recently in 2018, a number of smaller infrastructure improvements commenced including; widening roadworks, adding four bus lay-bys along Kam Sheung Road, junction improvement works, various other water supply and landscaping works. Notable attractions in the Kam Tin area include the Kat Hing Wai walled settlement. Serviced by the Kam Sheung Road Station, Kam Tin is just under an hour to Tsim Sha Tsui and just over 1 hour to the Futian Checkpoint and Shenzhen border by train.
